Wembley Stadium, SummerSlam '92
KISSMYARSE.00game.com asked the WWE superstars for their comments on Davey Boy Smith, who passed away a few days ago.

STEVE AUSTIN
"I only knew Davey when I was there in WCW. I heard a million stories about him because he liked to have a good time. I used to travel with him for a little while. He was just fun 24/7. He was kind of like listening to Ozzy Osbourne sometimes. He had that thick English accent, and he was hilarious. He was a young guy. He started in the business at an early age, so it seems like he was around forever. The last couple of years I haven’t talked to Davey. I feel bad – 39 or whatever it was is too young to go. I wish he was still here with us, but that’s just not the way it turns out"

WILLIAM REGAL
"Davey Boy Smith was wrestling in England by the time he was 15. He was a star; someone who you would admire. He had got on with his life and gotten out of England, made a name for himself and went around the world."

HARVEY WIPPLEMAN
"Davey was a good friend of mine. He was one of the funniest guys I ever met. I really enjoyed being around him. I’ve known him for years and years and years and years and years, and he’s one of the good guys as far as I’m concerned, and ishould know, ive known hi for years.

Davey beat Bret, winning the Intercontinental Championship.

His career earned him millions and fans screamed for his trademark “Running Bulldog Powerslam” move.

At the peak of his TV fame he lived in a 15-bedroom mansion in Florida with Diana and their children Harry, now 15, and Georgia, 13.

In 1998 he moved to rival TV group, World Championship Wrestling, but a freak fall left him injured and suffering from a severe spinal infection which doctors feared would paralyse him.

But he fought his way back to fitness and was on the point of rejoining the WWE.

His tangled life took another twist when he divorced Diana and set up home with Andrea, 42 — ex-wife of Bret’s brother Bruce.

Dad Sid added: “He started wrestling when he was 10. It was his life. He was so thrilled with the prospect of a comeback.

“A pal broke the news to me after I came in from the pub. I was shocked — I couldn’t speak.”

A post mortem examination into Davey’s death is being carried out.

A WWE spokesman said last night: “Everyone in the organisation is shocked and saddened.”
